Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV)can be used as off road vehicles, but they can also handle paved roads depending on their body height and tires. Off road vehicles were originally built by Minneapolis Moline company to shield farmers from the elements. They were called comfortactors (latter called jeep), they were a mix of tractor and car. You could use it to work the farm or go to town reported Minneapolis Moline Collectors club. Then off road/paved road vehicles were bland in appearance. Now the off road/paved road vehicle’s appearance is a matter of choice, budget and compatibility. Thus ones purchase of custom rims can be organized into steps. Step 1 Determine how much you have to spend on custom rims, and consider rim warranties. They can run roughly $80.00 and up. Step 2 Determine how much manufacture protection you want. Hot Rod Hanks reported that Chrome wheels generally have a 2-3 year guarantee, painted wheels 1 year and polished aluminum none. Step 3 Take a serious look at your vehicle, and consider a rim design you can live with. They come in painted rims, chrome rims and polished aluminum rims. Choose carefully because once you put tires on custom rims, most sellers won’t take them back. So look at rim designs in magazines, stores and on websites. You can log on to AmericanRacing.com, ChipFoose.com, HotRodHanks.com, VictoriaTire&Wheel.com and a number of other sites. Step 4 Seriously consider rims locks, I usually put one on each wheel. Their inexpensive and can be bought in a four pack, but make sure the key comes with them. Step 5 Determine how much time, money and elbow grease you’re willing to exhaust maintaining your custom rims. Check with manufactures and sellers to find out the following how long does it take to clean the rims, what can be used safely and how much it costs. Step 6 Determine whether you want to buy the custom rims direct, or from a middle man like an auto parts store, etc. Custom rims bought direct are generally cheaper, but you have to measure from the inside of one car stud to the outside of another car stud using a ruler or tape measure having 32nds of an inch. If you don’t want to measure you can do a purchase/install at a local auto parts store, repair shop and they will take care of everything. Step 7 Maintain all documentation that came with your custom rims, guarantee, booklet, receipt. Step 8 If you live in a place where the winter’s have snow, you need to put your old rims or during the winter. The salt used to keep the snow away, can also eat away your custom rims. Step 9 If you must store your custom rims follow the manufactures recommendation. I have wrap them well in a clean cloths and inserted them back into the box. Step 10 Give your custom rims a good cleaning and check for cracks, also check the condition of your lugs and locks prior to reinstalling them.
